Day 28 - Face Book Connections

February 2, 2015
Day 28

Last night I was up into the wee hours texting like a teenie booper.  My android allowed my friend, with a two hour difference, and I, to share words; fun ones. This put me texting at midnight. Probably not the best idea in light of this packed week. However, we fellowshiped minus the wonderful sights of her expressions and the sounds of her mirth. This truly is a loss.

I had asked her to speak, lend some natural health advice, to one of my children. I was no help to my child and all of a sudden I thought of "Her!" I knew she would take the time to give my child direction. This woman is a walking encyclopedia of natural health information. She has studied this for over 30 years (give or take a few-who is counting?) and it benefits her family, her circle of friends and her community.

My friend connected with my daughter. They chatted for quite some time. I was not part of this dialogue, did not need to be. My friend, however, relayed to me that it was a good talk.  Then she asked how my children were doing spiritually. This was a texting challenge thrown at me at midnight. Did I have the energy to text, even with swiping? To find the words is never a problem but to text is another issue.  Added to this is the fact that my phone is a potential hazard. The cracked screen taunts finger cuts.

But of course I answered her question and we began using the new means and ways of connecting (relatively speaking). She would wait for my three little circles to stop moving and she would respond and I likewise, would wait for her three circles to stop moving and then I would respond. I am not so good at waiting as she is but we had a wonderful time connecting; over social media.

She is a friend with whom there are no re-entry steps needed to get back to where we left off.  It is as if we have lived our lives together.  I do not even know how long it has been since we have lived in the same area, I can never do the math, though I try.  We have not spent time writing letters, talking on the telephone or even visiting one another.  Recently, it has been FaceBook that has aided us in keeping each other updated.  I so appreciate FaceBook for allowing me to socially connect. But I really appreciate Lorian. You are one amazing woman and thank you for connecting with my child!

  2. This is fabulous - social media connection, no re-entry steps friends, how dangerous texting can be (not that you're driving, just swiping with a cracked screen)... Need a bandaid? (This homeschool mom has been the recipient of many an uplifting facebook conversation thread, complete with stickers.)
